What can I say, it is nice to have Yoshinoya at their new spot in The Cathay after the renovation. The interior feels clean and updated, a noticeable step up from the usual. I do appreciate the healthier options on the menu, which is a nice addition if you want something lighter. That said, taste wise it is still pretty average for Yoshinoya in Singapore, nothing particularly memorable. Service is also what you would expect locally, minimal interaction and very transactional. Overall decent for convenience, but not somewhere you go out of your way for.
Not my preferred choice, but it's interesting to see how the same one-man business model has been brought over from Japan to Singapore. I had the Ontama Beef Bowl. While the rice and beef were honestly sub-par, the egg was absolutely perfect and single-handedly elevated the whole bowl. I would actually recommend going with two eggs if possible. I also tried the Golden Fried Salmon. It’s pretty good as a party snack, assuming your baseline comparison is frozen fried nuggets.
I would like to provide feedback regarding an unpleasant experience at your Cathy outlet on 25 April 2026 at approximately 6:46 PM. My family and I, consisting of five adults and one child, had moved a table slightly to accommodate our group seating. Shortly after doing so, a spec wearing male staff member raised his voice thru the kitchen while speaking to us. We understand that there may be outlet policies regarding seating arrangements or moving furniture; however, the tone and manner in which we were addressed felt inappropriate and unnecessarily harsh. As customers, we fully respect restaurant rules and would have complied immediately if we had been approached politely or guided in a more professional manner. Unfortunately, the staff member’s tone and attitude made the experience uncomfortable and unpleasant for everyone present, especially in front of a child. Just avoid this outlet, or this eatery at all costs.
