MingTerrence and his team serve wonderful and authentic Peranakan dishes that reflect influences from his Penang heritage. Our family ordered a huge dinner spread and every dish was delicious and prepared with care. Located at the Kaki Bukit CC, this Halal certified restaurant was packed when we were there. Highly recommended.
Avril AtkegFirst time trying a halal Peranakan restaurant that even has some Penang-style dishes. Pretty good spread with nyonya flavours, despite not using lard nor pork at all. Service is friendly and attentive. Decor is less fanciful than other places, but the environment is peaceful for quiet conversations. The flavourful dishes are the Prawn Kerabu, which had a pleasant tangy freshness, and the Sambal Petai with Lady's Fingers, which has good strong sambal to complement the petai taste. Curry Kapitan turned out unlike the Penang style, as it's more like nyonya curry than true Kapitan style. Itik Sio had thicker sauce than expected and a tad too sweet. Jiu Hu Char had good squid flavour, however it could be improved with less wetness. The desserts came out lovely, especially the chendol which was genuinely self-made in pandan green, unlike other places that use factory-made fake green worm-like strands. A good place to bring Muslim friends to enjoy good Peranakan-cum-Penang fare.
SFood here is generally good and all the gravy dishes were excellent to pair with rice. Gulai tumis (seabass in tamarind gravy) was good, fish meat was quite chunky and the vegetables soaked the gravy up so well. Ayam buah keluak had a really good buah keluak paste. It comes with only 2 shells of buah keluak though, so you may want to add on additional pieces. Beef rendang was pretty good as well, quite tender. Nonya chap chye was yummy, cooked till soft like how we like it. Prawn & mushroom ball soup is the peppery type, can skip imo. Kueh pie tee was decent and fun to assemble, but the filling is too peppery for me. We were too full to try the desserts but will definitely do so next time. Drinks wise, they have buah long long juice which was "gao" and nice. Service was friendly. Place is spacious. Better to make reservations though, as there was a huge group reservation on a Saturday night. Can use CDC vouchers.
