We expected Lau Pa Sat to be a tourist trap but were surprised by how reasonably priced the food was. We tried the Thunder Rice from a halal certified stall and it turned out to be a great choice. The flavors were light and well balanced, with a refreshing tea/soup that complemented the dish perfectly. The vegetables were fresh and not overly salty, which was a nice change from typical hawker fare. If you’re looking for a healthy, affordable option in the CBD this is definitely worth a try. We came back again and tried their long bean with minced chicken rice. It was flavourful and went well with the rice. The portion size was generous too.
Best place in Lau Pa Sat. I go there at least once a week and always order the vegetarian thunder tea rice with brown rice (exactly the same as standard but without the ikan bilis fish crisps). The soup is super fresh with a strong taste of mint and basil among other herbs. This is the best thing you can order in the whole of Lau Pa Sat!
I wasn't sure when I read the board saying thunder tea rice would be good. Glad I still went ahead and bought the vegetarian option (very difficult to find veg options and I was happy to find one here in lau pa sat) and it did not disappoint. I was pleasantly surprised by the taste and how good the rice with the toppings and tea tastes. It was worth it in my opinion. Highly recommended!
