Raj's positive attitude towards his duties and sheer enthusiasm with serving customers, doing so with heart, goodwill and sincerity, moved me, so much so that I felt compelled to write this review, without having to be prompted by him or his colleagues to do so. When I visited this Soup Spoon outlet at Northpoint, several minutes before 5pm, I noticed that Raj was putting up a one man show at the outlet, preparing orders and assisting customers all by himself. When I quipped about this fact, he did not complain about his workload and seemed to take things in his stride, explaining to me that he only has to do so for a short mid-day lull, with a colleague joining him later for the dinner shift. Still, it is not an easy feat for him considering that he might be slapped with a huge delivery order during that period, but he kept his cool (he's sooo chill) and powered through. When I asked to have my ice removed for some drinks that I have ordered, I could not sense the slightest veil of annoyance in his tone or countenance, and he seems to enjoy interacting with customers, something that cannot be said for the coven of old witches at Northpoint's Chicha outlet, which I visited just before having soup here. Please give this handsome, cool bro his flowers! He can clearly perform all his basic duties without a single hitch - my soup and drinks were perfectly portioned and at the right temperature, he handles customer requests with grace and composure, and I bet he has been charming all the female regulars at the outlet (peculiarly, all the other customers were females during my visit)! Service aside, this month's seasonal soup rotation is one of Soup Spoon's better lineups, with all three soups being flavourful and rich. Their vegan soups tend to lean towards the insipid, flat, bland and earthy end of the flavour spectrum, but the soondubu jigae is delightfully chunky, thick, briny and full of umami depth. The best one though, is the spicy gochujang kimchi seafood chowder, a hearty, savoury stew filled with mussels, potatoes, napa cabbage and some fish slices. There is something about fermented bean paste making the most viscous of soups palatable even at the 10th spoonful. Without it, any thick, chunky or creamy soup would feel 'gelat' with one too many spoonfuls. The samgyetang is also nice, with the ginseng taste being discernible, but I wished they had upped the ante by charging a bit more and adding more ginseng roots. I also love the fact that they are very active with changing things up on their menu and coming up with various value-added sets and offers on their app and Shopee to keep customers like me returning. Sadly, they still have not taken up my feedback and reduced the amount of pepper for their mushroom stroganoff, making the adding of pepper an optional thing. Now, since this outlet is right next to Northpoint City's B2 toilets and is somewhat near Yishun MRT/the roads, perhaps the management could do something about flies hovering about the space...
Came across their Grab promotion for 1-for-1, which was really a good deal. The delivery packaging was good, insulated, and very nicely packed. $15.50 for two sets seems very value for money, but $15.50 for one set feels on the more expensive side. The sandwich or burger felt a bit disappointing. There were not many ingredients or much flavour, and it felt quite flat. I could mostly only taste the cheese and tomato. The tomato soup was honestly not really towards my taste. The bread that comes with the tomato soup also does not soak up the soup very well. One plus point is their iced lemon tea, which is really good. It is very flavourful, has a strong tea aftertaste, and is not too sweet.
Hearty soup with lots of ingredients! Especially loved the Bhutan Beef Soup which was slightly spicy and super fragrant+savory. We also had chicken teriyaki sandwich and tandoori chicken for each of our meals which were nice too! Just look out for the additional charges for these options
