Whenever I bring visiting friends to the National Gallery, I always make it a point to include a dining experience at The Great Mischief. This is my third visit, and it’s consistently been a delightful one. Ms. Jenny and her team are wonderfully attentive. We asked if we can have one of the best seats and though it wasn’t immediately available, as soon as it was vacant, she made sure that we get to be transferred. And the food—true to form—is always excellent!

The restaurant's alright, but honestly, it's a little pricey for what you get taste-wise. The view's great, though—can't go wrong with a Marina Bay view. We had a reservation, but when we got there, the seat had crumbs on it. When we asked the staff to clean it, she just brushed them off with her hand, which felt a little bit awkward for us. Maybe using a towel would've been a more proper? Anyway, our conclusion is the taste is decent, but there are other places in the same price range with better taste.

Something in the air felt like a renovation was imminent, and definitely needed. When the first thing I noticed was the dirty and stained bench to sit on, my mood to enjoy the evening changed quite dramatically. In hindsight, things probably more the family place to come with kids during the day, than with business partners for an enjoyable dinner discussion. The place is quiet enough tough to talk, but everything else just feels off. No drinks to speak of, the lighting is dim and no particular warm atmosphere (more grim & dull than uplifting), and the menu is ordinary. Although the service was fast, I was underwhelmed by the execution of the deliciously worded dishes. The calamari starter looks like a messy plate of small pieces that were too chewy to be nice and resembled more like the leftover small pieces in the fryer rather than the tender sizeable chunks I’d expect. The idea behind the lamb shoulder pasta is really great, but the execution is mediocre. No contract or texture gradient, no colour contrasts, fairly limited amount of lamb chunks and it all blends together like a large bowl of mash. Disappointing for what is a really good idea. Would I come back here, no. This is not the place to treat my wife, and would not bring business connections. The bar is set way higher for that.
