I visited Terang Bulan at Engku Aman Road recently, curious to try their much-talked-about martabak manis. The stall is easy to spot, and the aroma of freshly cooked pancakes is inviting. The staff were polite and took my order promptly, but the wait time was longer than expected, even though there weren’t many customers ahead of me. When the martabak finally arrived, it was warm and generously filled, but unfortunately, the texture was heavier and oilier than I prefer. The sweetness was also a bit overpowering, masking the other flavours. While some might enjoy the rich, indulgent style, I found it lacking the light, fluffy bite I was hoping for. The price point felt slightly steep for the portion size, especially considering the overall balance of taste and texture. On the plus side, the filling was abundant, and the ingredients seemed fresh. Overall, Terang Bulan at Engku Aman Road might still appeal to those who like a very rich and sweet version of martabak manis, but for me, it didn’t quite hit the mark. I’d return only if I’m specifically craving something extra indulgent, but it’s not a place I’d make a special trip for.

Thus restaurant serves up authentic Indonesian dishes and desserts. It’s Muslim-owned, so you can count on everything being 100% Halal! The food’s pretty decent. Since I love spicy stuff, I was all about their sambal—comes in 3 spice levels! The Bakwan Jagung was also solid, and the Martabak Manis wasn’t too sweet with generous fillings.

We finally tried the popular martabak manis and it was so good. There were many flavours to choose from and the pancake was soft and fluffy. We also had the nasi ayam geprek and indomie ayam geprek and the suchii fish fillet. The portions of the chicken and fish were huge. There are 3 levels of chilli to choose from so we took the mild and mid spicy. I preferred the mid spicy version. I ordered the mee bakso for my girl and she enjoyed it too. Overall its a very cosy place for casual indonesian food.
