My family has loved dining at Tambuah Mas since I was young, from its days at the old Tanglin Shopping Centre to now. The beef rendang is consistently delicious and authentic & I’m glad that the taste has remained just as good over time. The service at the Jewel outlet is also wonderful. The staff remember me and always welcome us with such warmth, which makes the experience even more special. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same about the service at their Paragon outlet, which is why we tend to return to this one.
If you are craving proper Indonesian food that does not try to be “airport friendly” or watered down, Tambuah Mas at Jewel is quietly doing the real thing. I have been to a few Indonesian restaurants over the years, and what sets this place apart is confidence. The flavours are bold. The sambal is unapologetic. The plating is generous without being messy. The udang in sambal merah was outstanding. The prawns were fresh, firm and properly coated in a vivid, punchy chilli sauce that had heat but also depth. Not just spice for drama, but spice with character. The grilled lobster was smoky with just the right amount of char, balanced beautifully with the lime and acar on top. It felt celebratory without being gimmicky. The ikan dish with sweet dark sauce had that comforting, almost nostalgic richness that makes you slow down and savour it. The satay was well-marinated and properly grilled, not dry, not rushed. Even the sayur lodeh-style dish topped with keropok had that homely, coconut warmth that many places attempt but rarely achieve consistently. Service was efficient and attentive without hovering. Staff were familiar with the menu and able to guide choices if needed. For a Jewel location, it did not feel like a tourist trap. It felt like a proper restaurant that happens to be in Jewel. Is it the cheapest Indonesian meal you will find? Probably not. But based on flavour, ingredient quality and overall experience, the value feels justified. I will definitely return, and next time I may bring friends who think airport dining is always mediocre. Tambuah Mas may change their minds. Verdict: Bold flavours, generous portions, and authentic Indonesian cooking done with pride.
Had been thinking of beef rendang for a while now. Finally got it at Tambuah Mas in Jewel. Exactly how I like it. Savoury sweetness spiciness just enough. Tender beef pieces with basmati white rice. It was so satisfying and so yumz. Love it. There are seats where you get to see the waterfall too.
