Honestly, this is the best biryani I’ve ever tasted! 💯 The rice was fragrant and perfectly cooked, and the chicken masala was rich and full of flavor. The two vegetable dishes and rasam complemented the meal beautifully. Great food and excellent service. I’ll definitely be back!
Ordered chicken briyani for $9.80. Choose cabbage as vege. Summary Rice : great Chicken : small Cabbage : poor Curry : lacking Papadum : normal Rice was great however the issue is it lack curry. Normally shamin banana leave gives a bowl of curry but none here. Chicken was disappointingly small. Taste great as usual but it is like half the old size. Cabbage lacks taste. It was curry or anything. Just bland. Disappointing price has increased but both taste and size has gone done. Cutting corners where ever possible. This is one good way of killing the franchise.
2026 26th June Update : Since my last review, I've been patronising the main Sembawang outlet more due to weekly fitness sessions at Khatib Camp. However after watching the Mr. Murali tiktok, I went back to see what has changed for the Northpoint outlet. Summary : STRONGER, BETTER, PUNCHIER! The last time I ate at Shami Northpoint, I already felt it was above Par but the new improvements greatly Improved it from Good to Great! The masala was thicker, punchier with a distinct heat and the rice is just as awesome. It is now on par and I feel more robust than the original Sembawang outlet in terms of flavour. I could taste the distinct and heavy punch of spices and heat from the first spoonful. Chicken was well cooked, juicy and tender as well. Shami is just getting better and better. No space or room for complaints. Truly and really a Yishun Institution! Well done to Mr. Murali and team! === I don't understand the recent spate of negative reviews. Been staying in Yishun for more than 20 years and this Briyani stall has been popular and famous for as long as I've stayed here. The one thing that I always enjoyed about this briyani stall is the light, fluffy briyani rice, yes it is not as spiced nor as heavy as other shops on flavour but it's light, delicate and not to the point where it overpowers the accompanying dishes. Had the 9.80 chicken set and the portion size was generous and knowing how generous they can be with the rice, I requested for half rice. The gravy was flavourful and the fact that the rice was light and delicate in flavour allowed the gravy to soak up properly Into the rice. Overall, I feel the recent spate of brickbats could be isolated but this still tastes as good as the first time I ate it many, many years ago. Its a different style of briyani, so some may like it, some won't, but for me. I like it!
