I really liked the briyani for its fragrant spice, and the chicken portion was generous, well seasoned, and tender. It came with a boiled egg, which was a nice touch. I just would have liked a bit more of the accompanying side.
Terence TanI have been going here for breakfast for about a month. I normally have a mutton thosai and masala tea. The mutton thosai is about $8 or so and the masala tea is $3. The tea is not exactly cheap but overall you can't complain much about the prices...i.e. fairly ok. On 22 February 2026, I decided to have an appam jala breakfast. A poster was on the wall showing it served with chicken curry. So I ordered it. If the mutton thosai was $8, basic logic tells you something with less meat (i.e. appam jala) should be $8 or less. Imagine my horror when I was paying the bill...I was charged $6 for appam jala...and here is the kicker or RIP OFF...I was charged $10 for chicken curry. This bowl of chicken curry had 3 small pieces of chicken with more bones than meat. The bowl of chicken curry served more as a curry base that one dips the appam jala to eat with. Imagine being charged $16 for a 3 piece appam jala breakfast with so little meat. When I queried the cashier, he doubled down on the insane pricing. I would have been better off just eating the mutton thosai. This is just a case of retarded pricing where the principle of relative parity just doesn't hold. Now after being ripped off in this manner I swore never to eat at any Sakunthala outlet and never to give a single cent of my F&B spend to this restaurant. My advice check the menu even if you are a REGULAR patron. Because the principle of relative parity or sensible pricing may not hold. On the same day my son had a poori set with 2 pieces of poori served with chick peas (i.e. purely vegetarian). That costed $6.50. So either their mutton thosai is not appropriately priced or their appam jala and poori set is STUPIDLY priced. Regardless, that was my last time eating at that restaurant. Never will I step into another Sakunthala outlet again.
Jay UmaI bought 3 packets of briyani. The guy told me the seeraga samba rice chicken dum briyani is nice. Each packet was $13.50. Let me tell you about the portion.. all rice and a tiny minute chicken leg piece in each packet. I was truly disappointed. So what am I paying for, $40 for all rice? I took a video but unfortunatedly in this review its not allowing me to upload. Sakunthala's was my wedding caterer 18yrs ago.. trust me.. its standard has dropped so much now. Will not be patronising anymore. There are better briyanis at a fraction of this cost in tekka.
