Got the masala thosai with mysore mutton. I enjoyed the thosai as it was fluffy yet crispy. Mutton was quite nice too though some was a little tough. Portion size though was good. A pity they don’t accept grab pay as the app said there’s 10% for dine out.
Had the mutton biryani masala, butter chicken meal, pani puri, mango lassi, teh tarik and fish masala. Food portions were huge, especially the fish! Sufficient to share between a few people. Mango lassi was sweet and refreshing. Teh tarik was very fragrant. Pani puri was an interesting experience and the friendly server taught us how to eat it as we were trying for the first time. Delicious suggestion! Biryani was very fragrant too. Service staff were all very friendly, and even offered to top up our rice. We greatly enjoyed the food there!
I placed a home delivery order from the SAFRA Mt Faber outlet on 11 July at approximately 7:30pm. My order arrived at 9:00pm but unfortunately, several items were missing. I immediately called the outlet and spoke to a staff member, Ramu, who assured me that the missing items would be sent over shortly. However, by 9:55pm just five minutes before the restaurant's closing time, I had still not received any updates. When I called again, I was told that no delivery riders were willing to take the order because my location was "too far away." I was then asked if I could accept the missing items the following morning at 11am or 12pm. Despite the inconvenience, I agreed in order to avoid escalating the situation. The next day came and went with absolutely no updates. At 1pm, I had to call the outlet yet again, only to be given the exact same explanation, that no drivers were willing to deliver the missing items. Frankly, that is not my problem as a paying customer. The restaurant failed to fulfil my order, yet I was the one who had to repeatedly chase for updates. At no point did anyone proactively contact me to explain the delays or provide a solution. Instead, I was left waiting indefinitely. Only after I followed up again was I offered a refund, which I accepted. I was told the refund would be transferred via PayNow by 9:00am on 13 July. Once again, the promise was not kept. By 10:30am, I still had not received the refund and had to make yet another call to the outlet before the money was finally transferred at around 10:50am. This entire experience was unacceptable. The issue wasn't just the missing food, it was the complete lack of accountability, communication, and follow-through. Every commitment made by the restaurant required me to chase them for an update, and every resolution only happened after I took the initiative to call. As the customer, I should not have had to repeatedly follow up to rectify mistakes that were entirely the restaurant's responsibility. This was an incredibly stressful and frustrating experience from start to finish. I paid for my order, yet I was left feeling like I had to fight just to receive what I was entitled to. After this experience, I have completely lost confidence in Sakunthala's and will not be patronising them again.
