I recently visited Nandhana’s Restaurant (Syed Alwi Rd) in Singapore and had a wonderful dining experience overall. The mutton meals were superb — the curry had a rich aroma of curry leaves with a slight sweetness that balanced the spices beautifully. The vegetarian meal was also delicious, with good variety and authentic flavours. The cheese naan with chicken tikka was outstanding. The naan was soft, buttery, and literally melting in the mouth, pairing perfectly with the juicy and well-marinated chicken tikka. The Bru coffee (Indian coffee) was also very nice — aromatic and satisfying, a perfect way to end the meal. Nandhana also offers seer fish. In my opinion, the taste was good, but there was a noticeable smell. Fish can develop a stronger odor after cooking mainly due to the breakdown of trimethylamine oxide (TMAO) into trimethylamine (TMA) when exposed to heat and air. A strong smell may indicate the fish was not perfectly fresh or slightly overcooked, which releases concentrated oils. Proper cleaning with lemon or turmeric and good storage usually helps reduce this. Personally, I would prefer white snapper (Angoli fish), which I find has a cleaner taste and milder aroma. Overall, it was a satisfying meal, especially for those who enjoy authentic South Indian flavours.
I had a great dining experience at Nandhana’s Restaurant. The food was flavourful, served fresh, and felt very authentic. The banana leaf meal came with a good variety of dishes. The rasam was comforting, the curries were rich, and the kesari was a nice sweet finish. Portion sizes were generous and the staff were attentive even during the busy period. The place is clean, family-friendly, and the service was fast. Definitely a solid spot if you’re craving South Indian food.
