The reviews here are pretty polarizing. People either seem to swear by it or walk away feeling completely underwhelmed. Naturally, I had to head down during lunch to see it for myself. Firstly, this stall gained significant fame because it was one of the first briyani stalls to be officially recognized by the Health Promotion Board as a Healthier Choice partner. Therefore, it has built a massive following among the health-conscious and elderly because it’s a "clean" briyani meal that doesn't leave you feeling heavy or guilty. I hit the stall right at the peak of lunch hour, and surprisingly, there was no queue at all. The service, handled by a young chap, was strictly transactional, but I’ll give credit where it’s due: it was incredibly quick. I ordered the Chicken Briyani ($8), but sadly, this was a case where the anticipation was better than the meal itself. Unfortunately, the basmati rice here was noticeably dry and lacked that fragrant, aromatic punch that makes a briyani feel special. Usually, you’d count on the accompanying curry to save the day, but this one was watered down. Instead of flavouring the rice, it just made it wet without adding any depth. Visually, the chicken looked decent enough to get my hopes up. But once I dug in, the taste just didn't match the looks. It was quite bland, with only a very faint hint of spices. That signature explosion of rempah was sorely missing here as well. Also, the portion I received felt rather small, especially for a dish that usually leaves you in a food coma. What’s strange is that some previous reviewers have raved about the generous servings here. It makes me wonder if I just hit an unlucky streak. Perhaps the portion size depends on who is behind the counter and maybe the young chap I encountered is a bit more conservative with the ladle. Either way, for my visit, the value just wasn't there. Ultimately, Mami Midah serves briyani with a conscience. It’s a noble effort, but if you go in expecting a traditional flavour bomb, you’re going to walk away feeling like something is missing.

Take out their lamb shank biryani a couple of year ago, it was great. Ordered their Fried Chicken biryani this time round. It’s good! I preferred the lamb shank.

Heard so much about it and here I come. A small Q at 1:00pm Ordered the fried chicken briyani @ $8.00. The Briyani rice is very average not much spice or fragrant. The chicken is tasteless and dry. Curry is watery and diluted.
