I was sceptical to try this stall, but wifey who is more open minded with new experiences made the final call for both of us. So we ordered chili fish and potatoes. Total bill was S$26 with 2 bowls of rice. You might think that's kind of expensive in a hawker setting. And I tend to agree too. But at least the portion was large, especially the potato which was like a small hill of spuds. So think twice when ordering and you won't end up with leftovers. The fish had a firm texture and tasted fresh, hence it was quite enjoyable. Even though it was covered with chopped chilies, it wasn't overly spicy so even I didn't break out in sweats. I think sugar was added because it had a sweet note which was most apparent when I sipped the sauce. Personally I would prefer less or no sugar at all. I don't think they add msg to the food because we didn't feel any msg induced thirst afterwards. Would we recommend this stall? Based on this experience, yes.
Tried both the Mala hotpot and Pickled Fish Fillet at Pakar Mala, and both dishes astonished me with very nice spice blends and well-balanced flavours. Prices wise, they are comparable to many other mala hotpot stalls that I have tried, and Pakar Mala's ingredients are really fresh.
Love it! The food tasted very authentic and the soup was really good. Highly recommend the 3 mushroom soup base — creamy, garlicky and not too spicy, very shiok. The meal was very satisfying and filling. Just be careful when choosing the ingredients because the price can add up. Overall really enjoyed it and will come back again. 👍
