We'll vouch for the larger banana leaf Otah. Sure, they're a tad pricier but they're also plumper, offer a juicier bite and looks way more appetizing than the anorexic standard-sized ones. Best of all, what you should not deprive yourself of on the next visit is a big bag of ikan bilis and nuts. They're packed in a brightly-colored orange paper bag and hold 4-5 mini sachets of umami, crunchy goodness. Who cares about furikake... this is as good if not better and as decadent as it sounds, we usually snack on these like chips when lounging with Netflix. Moreish and addictive! It's lovely that this chain has mushroomed over the years, a delight for me since I can't ever locate decent Otah in the hawker stalls today. I do miss the old satay club days when they used to grill the Otah over hot charcoal, fanning the flames and serving it up fresh and piping hot. Alas, this is a quick but delicious fix, a pop in the oven to heat up and those banana leaves even produce a slight singe at the tips.... almost like the real thang. Great accompanied with fried tempeh... and helps bring the spicy heat from the Otah down a notch. It's truly perfect to plate it as part of a smorgasbord of local munchies.
🔵 Lee Wee & Brothers 🟢 11 Bidadari Park Drive, # B1-K7 The Woodleigh Mall, Singapore 367803 🟠 I visited the popular Lee Wee Brothers Otak Otak kiosk at Woodleigh Mall to buy 15 sticks of their famous and tasty Mackeral Fish Otak otak. 🟢 Price =SGD1.90 ( Large otak otak) 🟠 This is my favourite Otak Otak and I always dapao ( takeaway) to bring these delicious grilled spicy fish cakes home and eat them with fluffy white rice. ● Service was fast and efficient at this kiosk. Dated 5th Aug 2025 Tues ******************************* 🟥 Information= As I was raised in a Peranakan household, I am very particular over the pronunciation of Malay words. ✔️ It is Otak Otak, and not Otah. ➡️ Otah is the mangled colloquial term. 🟠 Otak-otak is the correct Malay name for the grilled fish cakes. 🔵 The name "Otak Otak" means brains in Bahasa Melayu. ➡️ And the mushy fish cake is said to resemble fish brains. Thus, the name "Otak". 🟨 Otak-otak is a popular South-east Asian dish made of ground fish meat mixed with spices, wrapped in banana leaves, and then grilled. 🩷 My late mother used to make Otak Otak at home. 🔸 The name "otak-otak" is said to come from the soft, squishy, brain-like texture of the fish cake, which some say resembles brains.
Pretty disappointing $6 nasi lemak. The rice is not fragrant enough, and the honey glazed wing is so-so..
