It's our goto for authentic chicken rice at such affordable price unheard of today so nuff said. Grab those for sure. Here I want to talk about the other offerings off their menu. Especially during brekkie or breakfast where one does not want to eat chicken rice. They've got a selection of classic familiar mee or noodle offerings. Now to the suprise find I would like to share more about. I'm really happy with this simple bowl of deliciousness. Ever since the (in)famous headband auntie sadly left us, along with her husband, her original Mee Soto deluxe stall at Adam Road Food Centre that attracted long queue also left with its soulfood satiater bowl of OG sedapness. And theirs come with a homemade style begedil, with plenty of add-ons to tempt like mempedal(gizzard), hati(heart) and chicken feet! So it used to be once a week, before I head over to my beloved lil wonder O2 where I would bear with her grumpiness — we've had that one pivotal hard head on exchange, made peace and became loyal vendor and customer :) —, where I would satisfy my craving with her bowl of wondrous deliciousness to warm up my belly with soulfood so good unforgettable. Alas, cancer cruelly took her and her quietly supportive dedicated husband, fragile with triple heart episodes, followed her soon after. And promptly that stall never recovered. Her kids tried. Others did too but as we know when it comes to food it is really about the tangan or hand that makes it that gives it that special something hard to pin. So, today to find this simple bowl of equal sedapness after testing so many I'm not just thrilled but elated. Hey food does that for me. Now the soup or kuah/gravy is less spice-laced — although I saw the Chinese adik who made it filtered it for a clearer broth — but the taste has oomph, ada umami lah! And since it's really predominantly a chicken rice focused stall — btw its classic Hainanese style is so authentically good — I could add my mempedal; bestest. And, next time I'm asking for the broth to be tambah or replenished. The Malaysian adiks preparing and serving there are so politely accommodative and nice. Simple joy. I'm a happy man :) PS Either adik read this or someone might have mentioned to him for I can now add on chicken feet! Glorious. I love 'em. Yummy.
Sten (Piqued Wanderer)One of most affordable meals we had recently. In terms of value and quality, this beats most places easily. Lets dive in! Food: We have been here a couple of times and the taste is never a failure. Constant standard across different days. There were a variety of the menu to also choose from. Service: Staff were very friendly and were always had their smiles mode on, even while preparing food. Conversations that happened sounded sincere and created a lively vibe. Made customers feel welcomed. Atmosphere: Place is abit distant away from the main central area of toa payoh but can still walk there. The whole kopitiam feels lively with many sitting, eating and chatting away with company. Would be way better if the place was spruced up abit. All in all, a great place that provides value for money meals. We highly recommend all to pop over too! Cheers!
Darrel ChanRecommended by my friend to try this , it was worth it. $3.8 for normal chicken rice meal , $5.3 after adding chicken. Portion is worth the money. Steam chicken is tender and juicy , roasted chicken has flavor. Rice is fragrant too. Worth a revisit
