Just had an incredible dinner at Gyusei Gyukatsu! Such a cool concept with the charcoal finish and beautiful ceramic plates too. We tried a bunch of dishes: · A5 Ribeye Set $69.00++ - Buttery, melt-in-your-mouth 120g served with umami onsen egg · Premium Seafood Set $39.00++ - Tempura-style feast with Salmon, Unagi, Ebi & Soft-shell crab · XL Hyogo Oysters $29.00++ - Massive and briny, crowned with Black Tobiko & Yuzu Ponzu · Beef Curry Stew $14.00++ - Rich, slow-simmered with A5 Wagyu tenderloin trimmings · Menchikatsu $12.00++ - Crispy 100g patty of A5 & Australian ground beef katsu They've got a great promo running until March 2026 - free 60g A5 Sirloin Wagyukatsu with every two Wagyukatsu sets ordered while stocks last. Definitely raised the bar for gyukatsu in Singapore! The food was absolutely delicious and the service was warm and fast with fun presentation. I will definitely be back again!
The vibes were immaculate. Japanese city pop playing in the background, paired with a cozy, intimate space. It’s a small setup, so walk-ins will usually be seated at the counter (about 4 pax capacity), which honestly made the experience feel even more personal. We ordered the A5 Ribeye & Striploin katsu sets, and I really appreciated the variety of seasonings available to customise each bite. Plus, the refillable condiments were a nice touch that made the meal even more enjoyable. Personally, I found the A5 ribeye a little overwhelming due to its richness and fattiness, especially with the already crispy, slightly oily batter. I did prefer the striploin, which felt more balanced and easier to enjoy throughout. The kitchen staff brought great energy, very vibrant, communicative, and fun to watch while they worked. Special shoutout to Suha for her exceptional service! She was incredibly attentive, quick to act, and so warm and friendly. She made us feel genuinely comfortable throughout the entire meal. Truly hope her efforts get the recognition she deserves 🫶🏻
The Wagyu Dreams and the "Fried Fish Skin" Reality We recently visited GyuSei, a charcoal-smoked wagyukatsu specialist, and it was a bit of a mixed bag. Here is the breakdown of the experience: The Highlights: * The Melt-In-Your-Mouth Wagyu: If you are here for the A5 Striploins or Ribeye sets, you are in for a treat. The marbling is incredible, and the meat truly melts in your mouth. The charcoal-grilled finish adds a lovely depth to the flavor. * The Experience: The presentation is top-notch. I loved the palette of 12 different condiments (especially the fresh wasabi and truffle salt) which allowed for a lot of fun flavor experimentation. * Ambience: The restaurant has a very pleasant, authentic atmosphere that makes for a great dining environment. The Lowlights: * The A5 Wagyu Tenders ($28.00): This was the biggest letdown. For "A5 Wagyu Tenders," I was expecting something premium and succulent. Instead, they arrived deep-fried and extremely crunchy. To be honest, they tasted exactly like fried fish skin. It was a massive disappointment and felt like a waste of high-quality beef. * Price Point: While the main sets are premium, the total bill adds up very quickly. With a $230 subtotal for a few sets and sides, it feels overpriced, especially when some of those "premium" side dishes don't hit the mark. Verdict: Go for the signature Wagyukatsu sets—they are delicious and the presentation is beautiful. However, I’d suggest skipping the "Wagyu Tenders" unless you really want expensive fried snacks.
