Came with family for lunch one Saturday and there was no queue. The place is large with ample seats but a tad noisy. We ordered unagi don, chicken katsu curry and beef Sukiyaki. Also ordered ocha green tea (free flow). The food taste decent and we will rate it 3.5 out of 4. Staff are friendly and efficient.
If you want to avoid the hour-long queues at Nakajima Suisan, Gyo Gyo at Plaza Singapura is an efficient and reliable alternative. The restaurant is halal-certified, and there is usually little to no queue. Having visited twice now, I found the grilled mero to be tender and moist, with a delicious marinade. While the seafood is reasonably fresh, it still falls slightly short of the freshness offered at Nakajima Suisan. The rest of the menu is a mix of hits and misses. The tempura was a pleasant surprise, it was crispy, tasty, and not overly greasy. The grilled squid was decent in flavour, though its large size made it difficult to achieve a perfectly tender texture, so it was a little chewier than I would have liked. However, diners should probably avoid the Seafood Pot, as the ingredients did not taste fresh and the broth was very average. Similarly, the Ebi Bowl was rather underwhelming and not something I would order again. The milk pudding, on the other hand, was creamy and milky, providing a pleasant sweet ending to the meal. My recommendation would be to stick to the grilled fish sets here. Service was alright on both visits.
Visited GyoGyo at Plaza Singapura and had an amazing experience. The unagi don was absolutely delicious—the eel was perfectly grilled, tender, and flavorfully glazed. Big shoutout to Yuli for the excellent service! She was incredibly attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed. Will definitely be back!
