Wu WeiI hope this message helps some of you start the week on a sweeter note. When I was studying for my degree, I was one of the oldest residents at PGPR. It was a fun place to live because there was a good mix of local and international students, which made the community more open-minded and interesting. In that open environment, I found it easy to meet people and make friends, even with strangers on the street. One of them was a law student from Brooklyn Law School in New York. He was visiting Singapore and hoping to build a career in the sunny little red dot. These days, I feel it’s rare to meet men who are brave enough to ask a woman out for coffee or a date based on a spontaneous connection in a bookstore. But he did. We had a beautiful coffee date, even though he only had $50 with him on that backpacking trip. He later returned to Singapore after completing his law degree and found a position. Smart, soft-spoken, gentle, and handsome, he’s doing very well in his career —I recently saw his profile on LinkedIn. I’ve been single for almost a decade now, focusing on work and personal development. But I guess it’s OK to admire him from a distance in the West. Thank you B for making my life a little more special. Where is your next adventure?
Michelle YeohComplete, nice and the most modernised dorm in NUS. Comes complete with standard condo facilities except swimming pool. The cafeteria has got two levels for air-cond and non air-cond dining. Large enough to accommodate plenty of students. The shuttle bus services are regular. Located on a hill slope so there are many stairs to navigate.
Hazel OakleyThis is the review I needed when I was trying to find out what I was moving to (International move to start a 4-year PhD). Housing were less than communicative. This is a Married Type A apartment at Prince George's Park Residences (blocks 13/14) - 1 Separate bedroom. (The door app doesn't work for anyone, arrive during working hours and housing will give you a regular electronic hotel key). Your student account (e1234567 and password) will give you internet access so as soon as you arrive you can login to the wifi. NOTHING is included. Not a pillow, kettle, mop, bucket, toilet brush, desk lamp, nothing. You will need to furnish the whole thing. The whole unit is laminate/vinyl wood floor throughout. Every window has roller blinds. There isn't a single wall mounted hanging option anywhere. So no hanging pictures or notice boards. Housing is done in blocks (Holiday/Semester/Holiday etc). and you book the next one half way through the current one. (I know this isn't reassuring for long term stability). YOU ONLY GET TWO SEMESTERS. You pay for each semester in one go half way through it. (This is an insane system and makes budgeting really hard, everyone starves for 8 weeks as they save enough to pay the rent). Entryway - 3 cupboard shoe cabinet. Electronic door lock. Kitchen - Sink, 2 burner stove (electric), extractor fan, microwave, fridge, small bin. 3 electric points. 3 drawers, 8 cupboards. Yard - Washing machine point Living area - 2 seater couch, 2 seater table, 2 chairs, desk, 2 small shelves. Ceiling fan. Window blinds. 7 electric points. 2 LAN connections. Router. Bedroom - Double bed with mattress (190x150x20), wardrobe with 2 wide hanging rails, 2 narrow cupboards, 3 narrow drawers, high storage cupboard. Full length mirror inside wardrobe. 1 bedside unit (on castors) with drawer and shelf. Ceiling fan. Window blinds. 4 electric points. Bathroom - Toilet, toilet roll holder, sink, mirror/medicine cabinet, shower. The shower has hot water on demand (not an electric heater), which is solar so it can take a minute to warm up. Tiled floor to ceiling. There is a laundry room with washing machines and dryers in each block. You pay for it with your ezlink travel card (other electronic options are available), it's $1 a load. Soap powder is not included. There is a small balcony with some outside hanging rails. Our block has a hot/warm/cold water dispenser (although you can drink the tap water in SG). The site has a minimarket (app based) mostly stocked with snacks. There are a selection of vending machines. There is a good food court with veggie and halal options. There is a "weigh and drop off" post office facility. There are recycling bins around. There is a gym, multipurpose hall, basketball courts, bbq pits. There are small but adequate supermarkets at Kent Ridge MRT and Kent Vale condo. You will need to travel further afield for household supplies.
