The place is nice, a total Peranakan feel. The wall tiles are photo friendly. The food comes fast. The beef rendang is my top choice. The chicken roll is crispy enough and generous with clunky meat but I personally find it a bit bland. The mixed vege is average. The sambal makes up for the rest. Very Shiok, authentic and yet not too spicy
We went to Botanic gardens for walk, decided to check out the peranakan restaurant nearby at Bumbu. There r 10 of us. Ordered Garlic fried fish-9/10, fragrant n nice. Crisp on the outside n soft inside w fragrant of garlic, v well balance n not greasy. Kang kong-8/10 Chap chai-6/10 Assam prawn-7/10 Soft shell crab-6/10 Kai lan-9/10 Ayam buah keluak-1/10, taste r jux not right. Over powered buah keluak taste, could hv alittle more sour n spicy. Lemon grass drink-0/10, way too bitter. Nvr tasted such horrible lemon grass drink before. Taste so bad, even aft adding sugar syrup still taste bitter Prawn roll-8/10 Overall rating Service 6/10 Atmosphere 8/10 Food 6/10, but did not enjoy the experience as we were eating cold food. Fan too strong food get cold super fast so 5/10 for food instead. But considering the pricing, overall 6/10 for food.
Visited this restaurant for lunch on a Sunday noon. The place is pretty crowded. Since it is a weekend, we must order the Nasi Ulam which did not disappoint. We order the classic peranakan dishes like yam buah keluak, chap chai, beef rending, tauhu telor and the usual desserts. The portions are modest. Taste and flavour average except for Nasi Ulam which was very good. That said, I'd still say that food overall is ok but the desserts left much to be desired. The kueh has no coconut taste at all and there was a strange jasmine flower fragrance to it. Avocado shake is bland - I don't really know how to describe this but the gula melaka taste which is so key - is kind of lacking. The lady boss however was very attentive and took good care of our requirements.
