Amazing place that does incredible Indonesian cuisine very well - with no GST and Service Charge as well! Firstly, the oxtail soup was extremely flavourful and was full of the beefy flavour. It tasted a bit like mutton soup with that richness it has. The oxtail itself was extremely tender and falls off the bone super easily. Amazing bowl of oxtail soup. We got the Kai Lan as well and it was very well fried with the veggie being fresh and not too old. For mains, we got the bebek goreng and ayam penyet. Both dishes were outstanding with the duck and chicken being the stars of the show respectively. The duck in the bebek goreng was fried till perfection, with extremely crispy skin whilst still maintaining tender and juicy duck meat - without it drying out too much. Same goes for the chicken in the ayam penyet.
We tried the famous crispy fried duck for the first time. The crunchy duck skin and fragrant duck fat (if you get the thigh) were so good but the duck meat is drier than expected. Though the various chilli sauces (available at the condiment table) add flavours and some moisture to the fried duck, the overall taste was still a little underwhelming. The fried egg with tofu (tahu telur) has more eggs than tofu and it was not as savoury as we'd like it to be. On another hand, we enjoyed oxtail soup! The tender ox meat easily fell off the bone and the beef broth had sweet undertones from various vegetables. The restaurant was constantly packed with people queuing outside during lunchtime. Tables are quite close to one another so not really a place to dine comfortably.
I tried the original crispy fried duck at Bebek Goreng Pak Ndut @Lucky Plaza and really enjoyed it. The skin had a satisfying crunch, but what stood out to me was that the meat stayed tender instead of turning dry. The chili on the side was especially good and added a nice kick, so the meal felt flavorful all the way through.
