More often than not there’s no one actively manning the stall. I stood around for a minute or so before I asked one of the staff from the adjoining Munchi stall if the stall was open and she said she could make a bowl for me. Just a feedback to management that the empty looking stall may deter people from ordering. Anyway they’re running a promo now with $1 off during lunch and dinner time. I tried the vege bowl which had coleslaw, potato salad, fried tofu, seaweed, mani cai and long beans. Everything was nice on their own except the tofu which was just average. I am not entirely sure if they work well together but I’m not the type to mix up my bowl like a salad so it was still fine for me. Also, I chose the buttermilk sauce and requested for less sauce but it still seems to be drenched in it. The sauce is slightly spicy and quite rich. Will probably just skip it next time as the coleslaw and potato salad add enough creaminess in my opinion.
Pleasantly surprised to see that ALC Rice Bowls is now halal-certified, I finally decided to give them a try. I ordered the Grilled Salmon Bowl ($12.80) with teriyaki sauce and the Impossible Meatball Bowl — although I think I might’ve gotten the Chicken Meatball Bowl ($10.80) instead. The bowl came with five huge meatballs, which was very generous. I wasn’t sure which sauce to pair with the meatballs, so the staff recommended the sambal mayo (thank you, it was really nice!). I also asked to sample the buttermilk sauce and she kindly gave me some for free. The teriyaki sauce wasn’t quite enough, so I was glad to have the extra buttermilk sauce. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and the staff was really accomodating.
The staff is friendly and helpful. The rice bowl itself it's incredibly oily. I ordered the original Rice bowl that had chicken meatballs and tofu. Ask the staff if the meatball was mixed with anything like flour and they didn't quite understand my question. Turns out it is like the process meatball, instead of kaarage which I would've preferred. Everything was incredibly oily, and I think everything was fried. Chose sambal ijo dressing and although the stuff is generous, the Sambal ijo it's extremely oily -- the rice underneath was drenched in oil and I hardly eat any. I guess my expectation was too high but I have like something healthier.
